Spiral 7 Sudoku-like Puzzles

One of our most challenging classes of the year was a sudoku-like puzzle that requires the numbers one through seven instead of 1-9. The challenge here is that:

  • Each arc or spiral (in both directions) must contain the digits 1-7.
  • Each ring of pedals must contain the numbers 1-7.
  • No number can be repeated in any arc or ring of pedals.
The first page on each of the two attached pdfs shows how the spirals work as well as the rings.
Then I have attached six puzzles on each pdf. with solutions on the last page.
The first document is easier as they have over 25 numbers of the possible 49 filled in. The more difficult puzzles only have 18 of 49 numbers filled in.
STRONG RECOMMENDATION: Never put a number in a position unless you are 100% sure it belongs there. If there are two or three numbers that can go in a position, put all two or three numbers in there in a smaller font as a place-holder. Then when you figure out which number difinitively goes in that spot, you can erase the small numbers.
I also added a blank spiral so the children can try to create their own puzzles. This process is very difficult so it best done with a parent.
