One of the fascinating properties of the Sonobe Cube is that it separates the surface area of the cube into 24 congruent right triangle sections. I developed a numbering system that mimics a six-sided dice where the sum of the numbers on opposite sides of the dice always equals 7. Here, each number and its opposite has a sum of 25. Follow the pattern on page one of the attached pdf and number each section from 1-24.

Read the game rules carefully. These are on page 2 of the pdf. Players record their calculations and scores on page 3 of the pdf.

1.         2 OR MORE PLAYERS ROLL ONE OF THE 24 SONOBE CUBE DICE (4 NUMBERS WILL APPEAR).

2.         PLAY ROUND 1, 2, & 3, THEN REPEAT ROUNDS 1,2, & 3 UNTIL A PLAYER REACHES 20 POINTS.

3.         EACH PLAYER TRIES TO GET ANSWER WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME.

4.         IF ANSWERS ARE DIFFERENT, PLAYERS WORK TOGETHER TO FIND THE CORRECT SOLUTION.

5.         ONLY THE PLAYER THAT GOT IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME EARNS THE POINTS.

6.         EACH PLAYERS KEEP SCORE FOR BOTH PLAYERS AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN AGREEMENT.

7.         ADD UP THE POINTS AT THE END OF THE GAME.

8.         FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS, PLAY ADDITIONAL ROUNDS 4, 5, & 6 AND REPEAT UNTIL 40 POINTS ARE REACHED. FOR MANY PLAYERS, ROUND 4 WILL BE THE HIGHEST DIFFICULTY THEY WILL PLAY.

9.         PLAY TO YOUR COMFORT LEVEL.

Most children will play this game only between Rounds 1 and 3 using addition and subtraction. The more advanced players can try Round 4, which includes multiplication; Rounds 5 and 6 should only be played with your parents as it is higher-level multiplication and division. Play as many games as you can and bring in your game sheets to class.
