Polygonal Numbers (10/20-26)
Posted on October 23rd, 2009 by kramer
A Polygonal Number is a number represented as dots or pebbles in the shape of a polygon.
Use the graph paper provided and make different colored dots to count the triangular and square numbers. Eventually, each Mathlete should know the first 20 square numbers as they are used throughout
For the older grades, try to find the beautiful hexagonal and pentagonal numbers. Put your answers on the worksheet. Look for patterns in the numbers. If you are really ambitious, look for polygonal numbers beyond hexagonal, such as octogonal or decagonal numbers.
