PAPER TOWER CONTEST

OVERVIEW: To build the tallest free-standing tower possible from a multiple sheets of paper.

MATERIALS: one or more pieces of 8 1/2 x 11-inch paper ; scotch tape;  scissors;  ruler; and a  pencil.

RULES:  Each tower must be constructed from the paper and tape. No other materials or substitutions are allowed.

Each tower must be free-standing; it must not be attached to, or lean against any other surface (e.g. floor, wall, desk, etc.)  Towers must stand for 10 seconds.  Towers, whether standing straight/erect or sagging/curved, will be measured from base to highest vertical point. Towers that curve or sag may not be straightened and then measured; they will be measured to the highest vertical point while sagging or curving.

You may tape your tower to the floor or a white board.

From a single sheet of paper, Mathletes have accomplished heights of up to 53 inches.  With multiple sheets, who knows how far you could go. Good luck!!

EVIDENCE:  How should a Mathlete show evidence of the work they did during the week? Some will bring in their creation to show the class; some will draw it with the dimensions; and some will just take a picture.  All are fine.
