BIZZ BUZZ BANG Multiples of Primes (May 9-12)

BIZZ BUZZ BANG is one of my favorite games to play as it tests your knowledge of multiples with mental math.

BIZZ represents multiples of 3; BUZZ represents multiples of 7; and BANG represents multiples of both 3 and 7 which kids soon learn are multiples of 21. Sitting around a circle, participants count from 1, 2, and then BIZZ (instead of 3), 4, 5, BIZZ (instead of 6), BUZZ (instead of 7), 8, BIZZ (instead of 9), 10, 11, BIZZ (instead of 12), 13, and so on .... but when you get to 21 you say BANG.

The attached pdf file also contains a table of numbers that the kids can use to chart out multples and see where they intersect.

What the pdf does not do is to suggest that BIZZ BUZZ BANG can be played with other multiples.  I recommend always using prime numbers with the easiest being BIZZ for 2 and BUZZ for 3, and of course, BANG for multiples of 2 and 3 or said another way, multiples of 6.

The most popular multiples for K through 2nd grade are BIZZ for 3 and BUZZ for 5 with BANG for both 3 and 5, or said another way, 15.

When you do a practice run with a large group it is a lot of fun to do a challenge round where kids are eliminated if they make a mistake.  I have done this with entire student bodies of over 50 children and it is a battle down to the last one person.
